Advanced (Transferable) Technical Skills  £30/boat

You can sail any monohull displacement boat at this session.

Coaches Ian & Nick get technical;

• How & why does the boat move?

• What can you do to go faster?

• Why do sail controls matter?

• Why does the course you sail impact your boat speed? 

• Out of everything you think about, what's important & when? 

• How do you transfer these skills to a different class?

This session is for sailors who are regularly racing nationally & regionally & want to better understand the science behind how & why the boat goes fast.   You must have your own boat to attend this session.

Saturday 7 December at Yorkshire Dales SC

Intermediate Technical Skills  £30/boat

You can sail any monohull displacement boat at this session.

Coach Ollie K & William  B will go through the first steps to move your sailing from the simple mechanics of tacking & gybing into how to make the boat go fast all the time.  This session is for sailors who are racing regionally in the main fleet at events such as the travellers series & the Regional Youth & Junior Champs as well as regularly participating in their own club racing.  Sailors who participated in the regatta fleet in the traveller series in 2024 and plan to race in the main fleet in 2025 are also welcome.  It may be possible to borrow a boat for this session, please contact us.

Winter Work Out Supported Self Coaching

Following feedback from some of the older / more experienced sailors we have arranged with YDSC to run a Winter Workout self-coaching session on 7 December as well.  This is to allow youth sailors (in particular) to attend with a buddy and work on a specific area of their sailing with some input from a coach during the day.  There will be safety cover on the water for this group.  YDSC members just need to contribute to the cost of the coach & RIB, non-YDSC members will need to pay the YDSC day sailing rate.

Coach Available to support self-coaching/racing

We have arranged for a coach to be available before & after the regular club racing at YDSC on Sunday to allow anyone who wants to get some input to their racing, ask questions and get some support to aid their self-coaching and racing development.  This is free to any NEYYSA aged sailor who signs up via the link.  YDSC members will be racing per their membership, non-members will need to pay the day rate (which NEYYSA will liaise with the club on your behalf) if you book via the link below.

Saturday 15 February at Ripon SC

Beginner Technical Skills  £30/boat

You can sail any monohull displacement boat at this session but we anticipate sailors will primarily be in Optimists, RS Teras, Toppers & ILCA4.

Coach Ollie K will go through the first key steps to move your sailing from the simple mechanics of sailing around a training course into the basic skills needed for racing.  This session is for sailors who entered the 2024 regional travellers series & the Youth & Junior Champs for the first time in the regatta fleets &/or have been participating in start racing sessions at their home club and/or plan to start racing regionally in 2025.  You may be able to hire a boat for this session, please contact us.

Some practical points about winter coaching!

• You need to have suitable kit for winter sailing.  

• Some clubs offer their water & clubhouse but don't have an operating galley during the winter, we will let you know but you may need to bring all your own food. 

• Sometimes the weather thwarts us and we need to cancel / re-arrange at the last minute.  We will do our best to provide an alternative plan with as much notice as possible.
