We are disappointed to confirm that the event at South Shields SC on Saturday 11 June 2022 has been cancelled due to the adverse weather forecast.  Sailors who had entered the event have been sent an email with further information.  Our thanks to South Shields SC for their professional, considered and pragmatic approach to making this difficult decision.

Entry is open for the next event at Sunderland YC on 25 & 26 June 2022 and the series looks forward to seeing everyone out on the sea then!

Let's Go Team Racing!

Applications for entry are now being accepted for our team racing event at Ripon Sailing Club on Saturday/Sunday 25/26 February 2023.

The event will be held in RS Feva dinghies and will be two boat, double-handed team racing.

The event is open to any sailor under the age of 19 years on 31 August 2023.

The Notice of Race has now been published and is available to download or from our events notice board.

We are delighted to welcome York University Sailing & Windsurfing Club to the event team, they will be helping out with the event organisation and providing friendly advice to the less experienced teams too!  (This is also a great opportunity to ask a real student what university and university sailing is like as well!).

We are also appealing for help in finding some more RS Fevas for the event, more boats means more people can participate.  The boats we use will be sailed by everyone at the event, as teams will swap in & out of the boats throughout the competition.  You could end up sailing a different boat in every single round!  We need 4 boats for every race and they need to be of similar standard and condition so it's fair.   If you can loan a boat for the event, please let us know via the form and let us know the condition it is in.  There will be a refundable damage waiver each team will need to pay, if your team doesn't incur any damage when you are racing you will get this back after the event.

We also need help running the event to supplement the volunteers and NEYYSA committee.

What on earth is Team Racing?

Not heard of this, or not had a go before - fear not.  It's great fun and will help with your boat handling, rules knowledge and strategic thinking - all vital skills when out fleet racing.

Here's a great intro to team racing from the RYA.

In simple terms, teams of 2 or 3 boats race against another team.  The first team to get their boats over the finish line in a winning combination (points score equal to or less than 10 in 3 boat racing, last boat loses in 2 boat team racing) wins the race.  Unlike regular racing you can deploy dastardly tactics and cunning plans to help each other change places, slow the other team down and get your boats over the line in a winning combo.

If that's got you interested, then settle down for this in-depth look at team racing from the RYA's team racing gurus.

If you want to see some our region's sailors in action, check out these clips from the 2022 Eric Twiname Double Handed Team Racing Champs.

Like all our events, it will be a fun, supportive and inclusive environment where you can try something new or improve on existing skills.  As always there will be coaches around at the event to help the less experienced teams learn as much as possible so that they can get as much out of the weekend as the teams who have done it before.
